Used Silent Pianos

A used silent piano is one of the smartest buys in the piano world: a genuine acoustic piano with a built-in headphone mode, at a significant saving on the new price. Play it out loud as a normal piano, or engage silent mode and practise at midnight without disturbing anyone. Every used silent piano here has been checked, prepared and tuned in our Faringdon workshop.

Stock usually includes used Yamaha silent uprights such as the b1 and U series, often alongside Kemble, Kawai and premium German makes such as Schimmel and Bluthner. Prices typically run from around £4,000 for a used Yamaha or Kemble silent upright to £8,000 or more for larger and later models, with full-size premium German instruments up to around £15,000.

Silent systems from Yamaha and Kawai are the best known, and factory-fitted systems on used pianos have proven very reliable. Because the silent mechanism sits alongside a completely traditional action, you are practising real technique on real hammers, which is where a silent piano beats even an expensive digital.

Delivery, part exchange and warranty

Delivery: free mainland UK delivery to the ground floor on every piano over £1,000, carried out by our own team or specialist piano movers, with stair and upper floor work quoted on request. Your piano is prepared and tuned before dispatch, and a complimentary first tuning at home is included once it has settled.

Part exchange: we welcome part exchange and are particularly interested in Yamaha, Kawai, Kemble, Steinway, Bechstein, Bluthner and Bosendorfer pianos. Send us details and photographs for a valuation. Every purchase is also covered by our money back upgrade option, so you can put what you paid (less VAT) towards another piano later.

Warranty: every piano we sell comes with a guarantee of 2 to 5 years depending on the instrument, and online orders carry the statutory 14 day cooling off period.

Finance: interest free finance is available on pianos up to £5,000 through the Arts Council England Take it Away scheme, with our own payment plans beyond that. See piano finance for details.
