Upright Pianos

Searching for an upright piano for sale in the UK? The Piano Gallery stocks one of the widest ranges in the country, from compact starter instruments around £1,000 to full sized professional uprights by Yamaha, Bechstein, Kawai, Kemble and Steinway. Our speciality is the quality used upright, and reconditioned Yamaha U1 and U3 models, the pianos most teachers recommend, are almost always in stock in our Faringdon, Oxfordshire showroom.

An upright is the right choice for most homes and most players. It needs about as much wall space as a small sofa, takes daily practice in its stride, and a good one will carry a learner from first lessons to grade eight and far beyond. Every upright we sell is prepared and tuned before it goes on display, and comes with free ground floor delivery, a free first tuning, a stool to match and our money back upgrade option.

Upright piano FAQs

How much should I spend on an upright piano?

Solid starter uprights begin around £1,000 to £2,500, serious student instruments such as a reconditioned Yamaha U1 sit around £4,000 to £5,500, and premium German uprights run from £6,000 upwards. Our guide on how much to spend explains what you get at each level.

Which upright piano is best for a beginner?

Does the height of an upright piano matter?

Yes. Taller uprights have longer strings and larger soundboards, which means a fuller tone. Compact models around 110cm suit smaller rooms, the 121cm Yamaha U1 is the classic all rounder, and 131cm instruments like the U3 approach baby grand depth. See piano sizes explained.
