Roberts Pianos and Courtney Pianos Have Scaled Down: Where to Try Pianos in Oxford Now

Oxford has been lucky with its piano shops. For decades, anyone in the city who wanted an instrument could call in at Roberts Pianos on St Clements or Courtney Pianos on the Botley Road and find real knowledge, real craftsmanship and a genuine love of the trade. Both businesses have recently scaled down, and while we wish them nothing but well, it leaves many Oxford pianists asking the same question: where can I actually go and play a good range of pianos now?

The short answer

The Piano Gallery in Faringdon, about 35 minutes from Oxford along the A420. Our showroom holds one of the largest selections of upright and grand pianos in the region: reconditioned Yamaha U1 and U3 uprights, traditional British and European instruments, restored grands by makers such as Bechstein and Bluthner, and modern and silent pianos for players of every age and stage.

If you were a Roberts or Courtney customer

Then you are used to dealing with people who know pianos inside out, and you should expect nothing less here. We prepare and tune every instrument before it goes on the showroom floor, we are honest about the difference between a good piano and a merely shiny one, and we will never hurry you. We buy, sell and part exchange, we arrange specialist piano delivery across Oxford and far beyond, and we can point you towards trusted tuners and a list of local piano teachers. If you were partway through choosing an instrument, bring your shortlist and your questions over to us.

Playing them is the whole point

Two pianos of the same model can feel and sound surprisingly different, which is why a real showroom matters and why we have built ours around unhurried side by side comparison. Bring your sheet music, bring your teacher or your children, and spend as long as you need moving between instruments.

Visiting us from Oxford

We are in Faringdon, straight down the A420 towards Swindon, with parking far easier than anything the city can offer. You will find more about routes and delivery on our Oxford page, or you can simply email sales@thepianogallery.co.uk and tell us what you are looking for. We will have the right pianos ready for you to play.
